The Clark Fork Valley is a loop to the west of Missoula filled with small towns and scenic wonders.

As you leave Missoula heading west, you travel along the beautiful Clark Fork River. You'll notice the rose-colored cliffs of Alberton Gorge, have a chance to ride the Hiawatha Trail or maybe see some great wildlife by taking a quick detour through the National Bison Range. The choice is yours.

Alberton Gorge

Take a break and pull off at Alberton Gorge to see the awe-inspiring power of the river as it crashes through the narrow canyon. Known for its rose-colored cliffs and phenomenal whitewater, Alberton Gorge is much-loved by thrill seekers and water enthusiasts. The gorge is a great place to spend some time playing on the water. There are many local raft companies and guides to help ensure you navigate the waters safely.

St. Regis

St. Regis is a small town nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the St. Regis and Clark Fork rivers. Visit the St. Regis Gift Shop for Montana products and huckleberry treats galore. If you're up for biking, another thirty miles past St. Regis on Interstate 90 is the 15-mile Route of the Hiawatha Bike Trail. Take Exit 5 and follow the signs for two miles to the East Portal trailhead.

Paradise, Montana

Stop in Paradise, Montana, and take a dip in the mineral baths at Quinn's Hot Springs Resort.

National Bison Range

The National Bison Range is a 18,500-acre range and is home to about 350-500 head of bison as well as black bear, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope and elk. Learn more about the National Bison Range here.
